Marine Rescue Brisbane Water has a new base.

New Marine Rescue Brisbane Water base opens

Marine Rescue NSW has officially opened its new state-of-the-art base at Point Clare, marking a significant milestone for the Central Coast’s volunteer unit, now officially named Marine Rescue Brisbane Water. The $3.35M facility, celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on 12 May 2025, enhances search and rescue operations for the Brisbane Water and surrounding waterways. Member for Gosford, Liesl Tesch MP, joined volunteers and community members to unveil the base, which promises improved safety and support for local boaters. The public got a closer look during an Open Day on 25 May, drawing hundreds to explore the modern facility.

Invest in the future: Brisbane Waters WaterBUS and the Gosford Waterfront

In today’s competitive transport sector, passenger-focused amenities are critical to driving ridership and ensuring long-term viability, particularly for commuter services positioned as alternatives to private vehicles. Brisbane Waters WaterBUS is designed to deliver a seamless, high-quality journey by integrating modern vessels, efficient wharves, and robust land-based connections to capture market share and foster sustainable growth.

In 2023, Central Coast Council unveiled a transformative concept plan for Gosford waterfront revitalisation, informed by extensive community and stakeholder engagement. Notable highlights from the consultation report include:

"Council believes the Gosford waterfront to be the catalyst for the revitalisation of the Gosford City Centre."

"Council will be advocating for a Fast Ferry service with both public and private sectors to determine the viability of this service."

"Revitalisation of the Gosford waterfront is the Central Coast’s key enabling project. It re-imagines the waterfront as not only a major opportunity for the city’s renewal, but a chance for Gosford City to join the great waterfronts of the world."

Brisbane Waters WaterBUS is a strategic entry point into this high-potential market. By aligning with the Council’s vision, the project offers a unique opportunity to support a scalable, community-driven initiative that enhances connectivity, boosts local commerce, and positions Gosford as a premier waterfront destination.

With strong regional growth projections and increasing demand for sustainable transport solutions, Brisbane Waters WaterBUS is poised to deliver both economic returns and lasting regional impact. We invite you to explore partnership opportunities and join us in shaping the future of the Central Coast.

Early results from Candela P-12 pilot in Stockholm

The Candela P-12, the world’s first electric hydrofoil ferry, has transformed commuting in Stockholm with impressive results from its pilot on Route 89. This innovative vessel, which "flies" above the water using computer-controlled hydrofoils, reduces energy consumption by 80% and CO₂ emissions by 95% compared to traditional diesel ferries.

During its trial, the P-12, named "Nova," achieved an 80% occupancy rate and boosted ridership by 30% on the route. Commuters enjoyed a faster journey, with the 15 km trip from Tappström to Stockholm City Hall slashed to 30 minutes, compared to 45-55 minutes on conventional ferries or an hour by car or bus.

With its speed, efficiency, and eco-friendly design, the Candela P-12 continues to offer a compelling and practical case for sustainable water transport.
